OPENTABLE VS SEVENROOMS · REVIEWED JULY 2026
OpenTable vs SevenRooms: which fits your restaurant?
OpenTable and SevenRooms solve different problems, and the right choice depends on which problem you have. OpenTable is a diner marketplace with reservation software attached: it sends you guests and charges $149 to $499 a month plus $1.00 to $1.50 for each cover booked through its network. SevenRooms is a guest-data platform with reservations attached: it charges roughly $299 to $499+ a month on quoted plans with no cover fees, and its value is CRM, marketing automation and events across a group. Choose OpenTable if you need demand. Choose SevenRooms if you have demand and want to work it. If you're an independent that has demand and mainly loses it to unanswered calls and messages, neither is built for that job, and we say so in the verdict because we're Fork Time and that's our lane; the rest of this page referees the two honestly.

THE COST COMPARISON
The two models cross over on booking source, not volume. Every OpenTable network cover costs $1.00 to $1.50; direct website and phone bookings on Core don't carry the network fee. So the real question is what share of your covers come through OpenTable's marketplace.
A venue seating 150 network covers a week on Core pays roughly $3,588 in subscription plus $7,800 to $11,700 in cover fees a year: $11,400 to $15,300 all-in. The same venue on SevenRooms pays roughly $3,600 to $6,000+ a year with no cover fees, but gets zero marketplace demand. If OpenTable's network genuinely fills those 150 covers, the fees bought revenue. If those diners searched your name and booked through the widget, the fees bought nothing.
Run this test before choosing: pull one month of OpenTable covers and count how many originated from OpenTable discovery against how many searched for you by name. That single number decides this page.

WHEN OPENTABLE WINS
New venues that need to be found. Tourist-heavy markets where diners browse the marketplace. Rooms with soft midweek demand the network can fill. Operators who want fast setup and a known interface. If a third or more of covers genuinely originate from the network, the fees are a customer-acquisition cost that works.
WHEN SEVENROOMS WINS
Groups and hotels running CRM, marketing automation and events across venues. Established rooms with strong direct demand that want to deepen guest relationships instead of renting them. Operators for whom no cover fees at high volume outweighs the enterprise price floor. Anyone whose next dollar comes from working the guest list, not growing it.
WHAT NEITHER DOES
Both platforms record demand; neither answers it. The phone that rings during Friday service, the WhatsApp enquiry at 10pm, the guest asking ChatGPT for a table: OpenTable and SevenRooms both leave that work to your team or to third-party voice add-ons. A newer category, AI front of house, answers those channels from inside the reservation system itself.
VERDICT BY RESTAURANT TYPE
New venue building demand: OpenTable. The network is the point; audit the fee-to-discovery ratio yearly.
Group or hotel living in guest data and events: SevenRooms. Nothing else matches the depth.
Established independent with direct demand, high network share on OpenTable: move direct bookings off the network first; the fee test above tells you whether to stay at all.
Independent losing bookings to unanswered calls and messages: neither solves it. Fork Time answers phone, WhatsApp, SMS, web chat and AI assistants from inside its own reservation system at $199 a month published, with no cover fees, and a 14-day trial answers whether it fits. That's our product, and it's the one sentence of self-interest on this page.
Fork Time publishes this comparison. We compete with both platforms, we appear once in the verdict where our category is genuinely relevant, and the rest of the page referees the two on their own strengths. Pricing verified 22 July 2026. Corrections: support@forktime.ai.
